Delicate, not-fully-chlorophyll’ed spring foliage may be bright on its own, but being the only objects still tall enough to catch the sunlight once Trinity’s Long Walk gets in the way really makes the campus’s trees stand out all the more.

Arboretum Campus
An aerial view makes it even less surprising that Trinity College was recently classified as an arboretum. The warm spring evening air between their branches makes for perfect sensory inputs.
Spring Light Highlights the Long Walk
Though a city might not seem like the most obvious place to celebrate Earth Day, I’ve honestly been astonished since my move to Hartford just how many big old trees shelter the city. Between the greenery and the public transportation, this place gives me some optimism.
Frog Hollow
Hartford’s Frog Hollow neighborhood is home to Broad Street, seen at the left side of this image. Just beyond its bounds is downtown Hartford. Until flying my drone, I had never seen the two in contrast like this. They make quite a pair.
A Spring Morning at Trinity College
Perfect, breezy, warm, and effulgent spring days have sprawled across Trinity’s campus, rather like students on the quad. Grading papers in my office can at least be softened by an open window and the resulting smell of flowers.
Snow Tree Structure
When only the snow-coated branches of a tree stand out above the roofline of a nearby building, the result is a bright and dramatic view of their structure.
Cloudy Nightfall at Empire Polo Club
A rainbow of colors extend across the earth and into the sky during blue hour above Empire Polo Club.
Ireland Today
Even in a classic tourist town like Kilkenny, the stone walls and churches are accompanied by the features of modern Ireland. The auto mechanic and filling station in the left foreground (not to mention the cars) provide little hints of the century when this image was captured.
Laser Table Delivery
As the culmination of efforts that began in July 2023, moving an 800-lbs optical table into a third-story window of Clement Chemistry Building via forklift was remarkably less dramatic than might be expected. Once the window was removed, the rigging company made short work of the move—and were nice enough to let me get some shots of them in action with my drone.
Wadsworth Atheneum on a Snowy Night
Not every Main St. has a castle overlooking it, but Hartford’s Wadsworth Atheneum art museum allows us to make that claim.
Sunset Light on Clement
Warm golds and deep reds match autumn skies and Trinity’s neogothic architecture.
Skating in Bushnell Park (from Above)
Each winter, a skating rink is frozen into the southern end of Bushnell Park. The neighborhood gains a new sort of place to gather and the city gains that extra pop of brightness and life.
Welcoming Snow to Bushnell Park
Winter finally arrived (properly) to Hartford, Connecticut, and with it, Bushnell Park was transformed into perhaps its most charming version of itself. The tiny silhouettes of people among the glowing lamp posts and decorated trees brings to mind an urban Narnia.
Mounds, Mudflats, and Water Storage
While hiking the La Quinta Cove Trail may feel like getting in touch with nature from ground level, a mixture of water from a recent rain and a drone’s-eye view reveal the ways in which the landscape has been reshaped by people to prevent erosion and preserve the desert.
Maximum Tarmac Curvature
Just how curvy does a road have to get before it’s too curvy? Though opinions will vary, I’m sure, I have to guess that, from a civil engineer’s perspective, the Palms to Pines Highway must be pushing the limits.
