The Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal at Liberty State Park may not serve quite the role it once did, but the structure remains a lovely and imposing feature across the Hudson from downtown Manhattan.
Street Truck
For this vintage Ford pickup to survive so long in the northeast, it would have to have been a carefully-tended-to garage-kept apple of someone’s eye. Rust is too cruel a monster otherwise. On the streets of Berkeley, by comparison, older vehicles seem to still be around simply because there has been no reason for them to ever stop being around. Though I suspect this is indeed a well-loved truck, nothing about its existence so formally requires that as the equivalent vehicle would in my new neck of the woods.

Oyster City
New York was once famous for its oysters, grown in the harbor—a truly unbelievable number of them. Looking over the pier towards the still-glowing skyline of downtown Manhattan, I guess I’m not surprised they’d make an appropriate substrate for oyster growth.

Walking through the side streets of Berkeley, all kinds of delightful sports cars are secreted away in the driveways of wood-shingled homes. This BMW 2002 looks like it’d be a hoot to drive.

Liberty State Park’s Empty Sky Memorial is a sobering corridor facing downtown Manhattan. Taking a moment of stillness between the walls of names, I saw some other visitors doing the same thing.

Un-fall has included a disappointing lack of brightly colored foliage and odd weather. I say: bring on winter.
Downtown to Midtown
From New Jersey’s Liberty State Park, the view of downtown Manhattan is unimpeded. The view extends all the way up to Midtown and landmarks like the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings. With nothing but the water’s reflections between me and the skyline, there’s an odd calmness to a multimillion-person city.
Winter Arriving in the North
Though much of the country is enjoying crispy fall weather, the mountains and hills of the northeast have already been carpeted with the first snowfalls, and much of the bright foliage has already fallen to the forest floor.
