Heritage Park (on the left of this image) on the Grasse River in Canton came into existence through the efforts of many people in the community. Yesterday evening, a fundraising event was held to support those efforts. Nature turned up in full display to support the festival.
Summer is here! Chlorophyll-generation reactions abound in leaf and stem; the summer solstice is grand. In a countryside that seems forbidding during the winter months, warm weather changes the attitude of the land. Get out and explore!
The perfect frame appears: trees on either side, gentle river in the distance, and a path to the intersection between them. Canton homes are just around the corner. Civilization can wait. Skinny Bob Ross trees are welcoming the path and the river together. Happy little ferns!
Summer’s here again, which means weekends on the dock.
Is it summer yet?
Summer on a college campus (with all of the energy of a reunion weekend) buzzes and burbles with the remembered excitement of perfect afternoons. On the quad of Trinity College, in the shadow of elm trees and the enormous Neo-Gothic chapel, this reaches its apex. I particularly enjoy the father and son talking on the bench in the foreground, adding a touch of the intimate to an otherwise crowded scene.
I’ve continued experimenting with Aurora HDR software, and I’ve confirmed my earlier opinion that it is an excellent tool for surreal, enticing night shots and cases where the noise would be too high for any other HDR technique. For realistic HDR with natural lighting, however, Photomatix remains the king.
When it gets hot out (or hot for Seattle, at least) many will head for the beach, in this case Alki beach.

Kubota Garden is such a wonderful place in the summer. Wishing I were there right about now.
Let’s usher out 2015 with this image of Buckeye Lake, may it finally be full in 2016.
While the low water level of Buckeye Lake this past summer was terrible for boating and summer lake fun, it was good for checking out Herons and ducks. Here a Heron wades searching for its next meal, which it caught just moments later.
Compared with some crossings in the area this bridge feels a little over-engineered. Not that I’m complaining about the fact that it has handrails on both sides.
I love the way water crashes through rocks.
There’s something very midwestern about the narrow, poorly marked roads that weave in and out of plots of farm. Mostly straight but somehow you can’t always see the horizon, dotted with the occasional farm house or barn.
