The enormous internal volume of Kilmainham Gaol’s later wing makes the iron stairs and bridges spanning it extremely imposing—which was, I suppose, kind of the point.

Ball in Gaol
The reclaiming of Kilmainham Gaol for some better use than supporting English imperialism has included its use in a variety of artistic projects. Those include the location for various films (more on that in an upcoming post), as well as for art installations like this odd twig sphere inside a cell.
First Hints of Springtime Around Trinity
Bright sunshine scatters from treetops and roof peaks in Hartford. Buds begin to swell on branches around Trinity’s campus. When the weather is warm, it’s easy to feel that spring is just around the corner.

In the corridors of Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin, the specter of day (and freedom) seems to wash in around every corner.
Still, the array of colors found in the drab, gray walls. Would that have given any comfort to the people imprisoned here?

Imagery of JDM classics makes them seem larger-than-life, but a side-by-side image with everyday people reveals just how compact cars like the Mazda RX-7 were.
Ireland Today
Even in a classic tourist town like Kilkenny, the stone walls and churches are accompanied by the features of modern Ireland. The auto mechanic and filling station in the left foreground (not to mention the cars) provide little hints of the century when this image was captured.

This black Nissan GT-R R34 was lurking in the shadows.
The gold shades on this S2000 driver were extra-dramatic with a fisheye lens.
Rounding out the action, this C5 Corvette rumbled down the pit lane. Given that it and the R34 share similar tail lights and paint jobs, the similarity in style seemed justified.
Laser Table Delivery
As the culmination of efforts that began in July 2023, moving an 800-lbs optical table into a third-story window of Clement Chemistry Building via forklift was remarkably less dramatic than might be expected. Once the window was removed, the rigging company made short work of the move—and were nice enough to let me get some shots of them in action with my drone.

Views high above beautiful countrysides are more commonly the results of a drone in 2024, but I captured this shot of Kilkenny, Ireland the old-fashioned way: climbing the worn ladders of an old round tower to reach its windy pinnacle.
Nor’easter Snow Day
Snow days are rare for adults—but when a nor’easter completely fuses Hartford in place, there’s not much else to do but ride it out. The resulting images were cold but cozy—ready to go with a warm beverage and a good book.
