There’s a benefit to taking way, way too long to process some of my raw images: I get to revisit great evenings (like this one from the spring) and warm myself as we near the darkness of the winter solstice.
An excellent sunset, somewhere over Texas.
Though sun and fun and surf (and turf?) may be the core of the SoCal identity, even Pacific Beach gets a gray winter day.
When showing this picture of Trinity College’s chapel and Long Walk to a fellow alum, his first question was, “Where did you go to take this?” A near-lifetime of seeing the same perspectives from the same high points on campus made a shot like this one a complete surprise—a reaction that I’m always happy to provide.

The impossibility of this particular view of Trinity’s Long Walk keeps my eye returning to the perspective line as the building stretches away in the distance but doesn’t leave the frame.
The roof replacement at 1 Gold St. required a crane to reach above the 27th floor and deliver materials, and its emplacement closed Gold St. itself for a month. With all of that scale and drama, I guess I thought that the crane would be… taller? (Of course, it’s not in its “active” configuration in this shot.)
The maple foliage can’t quite hide the Neo-Gothic carvings of Trinity College. Though I’d imagine this particular turret window isn’t a frequent viewing spot, I think it’s about the perfect spot for, uh, perhaps a ghost to ponder the quad.
Folly Farm and Trinity College hosted an IHSA showjumping competition and allowed me to line up this perfect shot: jumping horse in the foreground, crowd and barn in the middle-distance, and foliage-encrusted hillside in the background
Strong CMEs arrived at Earth to find… cloud cover, at least over Hartford. I nonetheless flew my drone and I can almost convince myself that I see some green glow coming through the clouds amid the city lights scattering back.

At Trinity College’s IHSA show, the riders stood above the crowd (literally) while mounted for their class.
When peak foliage arrives at Trinity, there’s a perfect moment to capture it and I’m happy to say that I think I timed it perfectly in this particular case.
The administration’s end of the Long Walk, with handy HR and deans’ offices, isn’t one I visit as frequently but it’s no less beautiful in the fall.
A refuge amongst the trees–Hartford’s Trinity College or Middle-earth’s Rivendell? Flying my drone this weekend, I found a previously-unexplored angle from which to capture our campus and found a new perception of home.
