Spring Blossoms
One of the undeniably good things about the bay area is the unwaveringly pleasant weather we experience here. Since it’s been so nice outside recently I felt compelled to post this shot I captured last spring.
Seattle Radar
In Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood lies Seattle’s Discovery Park, formerly Fort Lawton. The park still contains the vestiges of the old military installation including this radar dome, which looks sort of out of place in a municipal park. This was taken just after one of Seattle’s characteristic spectacularly colorful sunsets.
Under the bridge
This one’s a little different, here I was playing around with a pinhole on my Canon T3i. This is actually a manually measured 3 shot HDR pinhole photo of a bridge on Cal’s campus. Composing this shot was a bit of a challenge as really the only way to judge composition is to take a long exposure (in this case not that long with the help of very high ISO settings). Processing it was also a bit of a challenge as the amount of change in the lighting over the duration of the three exposures created really weird looking highlights. Still, the peculiar kind of “lo-fi” quality is neat, and I’ve been experimenting with landscapes where the reduction in detail is less noticeable.

This shot of the Snake river in Idaho comes from roughly the same location as the previous shot of Shoshone Falls.

The Space Needle
Such an iconic part of Seattle’s skyline, I grabbed this shot from Kerry Park on a very Seattle day. Only thing better would be if the mountain had been out.
Toy Seattle
I recently received a Lensbaby Composer, and while I was in Seattle I decided to try to figure out how to use it. It is definitely harder than it looks, and the live preview (with the ability to zoom) is a life saver when it comes to shooting pictures that are in focus, especially when shooting distant objects (arguable this is not what it was meant for). Getting the “sweet spot” just right can be a challenge in these circumstances. That said, it does allow the photographer to frame their subjects in a very neat way, and in a very authentic way as well.
