Flying a drone is often a strangely lonely affair—high above the world, separate from it—but on this occasion, my Mini 3 Pro had a companion in this red-tailed hawk, perched on Trinity College’s chapel.

Connecticut Capitol, Miyazaki Mode
Warm sunshine, perfectly cloud-decorated skies, and green late-summer colors from bright sunlight make the Connecticut State Capitol look like a still from a Miyazaki movie. The architecture doesn’t hurt the comparison, either.
The Empty (But Clean) Pond in Bushnell Park
The benefit of living in a beautiful place is finding those days when (i) a beautiful location and (ii) charming lighting and (iii) special circumstances align. On a perfect late-summer afternoon, the pond in Bushnell Park is just finished its cleaning and repairs and has had its bottom protected with a layer of large stones. This is sort of a once-in-a-few-decade chance to capture the odd site of the dry pond.

A Porsche at the Long Walk
Quiet summer evenings along Trinity College’s Long Walk, so calm and dignified and neogothic, are best complemented by the shiny silver paint of a vintage Porsche 911.

“Skyline” might be applied more frequently to grand cityscapes, but the sight of Northam Hall and the Chapel standing out amount the Connecticut hillsides is as nostalgic a view as Manhattan to me.

The little details—the hood latches, the roll cage, the vents through the plexi windows—are what made this particular vehicle stand out in the paddock. The red paint doesn’t hurt, either.

Renovations in the early 2000s greatly enlarged (and renamed) Trinity College’s library; this monolithic-yet-warm form feels welcoming amidst the Hartford landscape.
Big Man, Small Miata
This large man faces the large challenge of fitting a small Miata into a small trailer and extricating himself when the task is done. I do not envy him.
Miata Return Afternoon
This kind of image—period vehicles, strange race-prepped Miatas, everyday clothing, a pleasing landscape setting—is the sort that I anticipate I’ll be most interested to return to in 50 years. Capturing the experience of the end of the day at MiataCon crisply, telling the most about the space and the moment.
