I love the lighthouses in the outer banks but I’ll have to come back later in the season so that I can climb the towers!

I swear that this shot is a candid: no posing or planning went into the moment. A little image of American aristocracy, expressed as Anglophilia: the thick hedge, the English riding garb, the friendly pony ears, the quiet attention. The cover of some future magazine, perhaps?
Visit the Sheep
A bucolic vision of the North country: a field of munching sheep, a barn and silo in the distance, a stand of trees, a simple fence, and a gentle brook. Spring is charming when it finally arrives.
Artichoke
In Berkeley, Artichokes are grown as decorative plants and so these bright purple blooms are not an uncommon sight. Seems like a waste to me, though.
Resilient House
The North Country is green and lush at this moment, but it’s worthwhile to look back on the recently-thawed saltscape that was spring. I still feel a certain sense of amazement at the number of fierce winters homes like this have survived.

One of the undeniably good things about the bay area is the unwaveringly pleasant weather we experience here. Since it’s been so nice outside recently I felt compelled to post this shot I captured last spring.

The spring is probably my second favorite time of year, after winter, because of all of the bright green foliage and brightly colored flowers. That green that just pops out at you from everywhere.
Spring Flowers
The bay area is notable for its gentle climate but this is never more true than during the spring. Even Berkeley is full of color, with flowers everywhere. These flowers were just hanging out on the sidewalk.
Succulents
Succulent plants, like the rather sizeable one pictured here (I believe it is some sort of agave? I’m no botanist), abound in suburban Berkeley. Sometimes they even compete with passersby for sidewalk space, as is the case for this ones’ partner (not pictured) and evidently, based on the evidence of pruning, this one in the not too distant past. They sort of look alien in the otherwise temperate-appearing trappings of the bay area (the previously mentioned palm trees aside).

I know I’ve posted close up shots of these roses before but here I’ve processed the shot as a single exposure HDR (so manually adjusted the exposure of a single image in post and then combining them) and I’m happy with the result.
