A real Shelby Cobra is a multi-million dollar machine, so it’s no surprise that it’s one of the most kit-car-copied vehicles in existence—so much so that my default assumption upon seeing a Cobra-shaped vehicle is to assume it’s a replica. In this case, I’m not so sure—could this be the real deal?
When my mom, brother, and I assembled our sports cars for a track day at Lime Rock Park, I knew it was a rare opportunity to create an array of vehicles like those that graced the covers of Car and Driver or Popular Mechanics when a major comparison test was the focus of the issue.
As much as I touted the glory of humble Civics bloodying the noses of prestigious vehicles, there’s a contrapositive joy from seeing an expensive car like an AMG GT devouring racetrack.
While in Vancouver, BC, this weekend, this mid-1950’s Austin Healey 100 (check out that chopped windscreen!) blasted past us. (And I know it’s not technically a hot rod.) I just loved the driver’s expression and demeanor: hair blown back, sunglasses on, focused on the drive. The details of this picture are what really get me, though; the car was perfectly washed and waxed, and you can see reflections of both the road and the surrounding buildings in its perfect surface.
