I’m amazed at what I can capture with my camera, especially given that I can’t see this with my naked eyes. Still, I wish that I didn’t have to contend with the bright lights of even a small town.

Agreed! I was astounded I could get this much. I could see much less with the naked eye and had to use an app to locate my subject. Technology is miraculous!
Yes, technology makes a huge difference. I’m using the app PhotoPills to help identify location, setting and rising times for the sun, moon and milky way and many more options. Best with more night photography.
